Flowing Through

D slept fitfully off and on while Leon moved quietly through his day. It had been far too long since the young detective had taken some downtime from the stressful reality of his life. It was oddly soothing to be home for a change. The apartment had once been a bleak reminder of his lonely existence, a shell he returned to after the snatched fragments of time he spent within the petshop's elegant parlor. Leon reveled in the sensation of being finally where he belonged for once the world in sync with him. D's presence permeated the once hollow rooms and wrapped luxuriously around him. Leon hummed with the radio while he made their bed taking time out to snuggle a pillow with the light remembrance of D's scent on it. He swayed a little as cleaned up what little messes there were his foot tapping lightly in time to the music. Every now and again he would stop and kneel in front of the sleeping kami and play with the bond they shared. He practiced opening it wide and closing it down to just a twinge in the back of his mind learning through trial and error. Sometimes D would awaken, sometimes not. Leon embraced the link either way and marveled at being able to feel his own child developing. He was singing away happily with Jessica Simpson in complete agreement that D was Irresistible to him when the kami fully woke up and padded into the kitchen.

D stared at the kitchen in wonder. Leon stood with flour spattered all over him in large white splashes. Cookie dough clung to him and was streaked across his jaw line. The wonderful aroma that had enticed D to wake up came from a large platter chock full of chocolate chip cookies and also from the oven where another batch was baking. Leon beamed at him as he went about spooning about drops for yet another pan of the cookies. D's stomach gurgled in anticipation and he reached out for one of the still warm treats.

"Go on and help yourself. I made plenty." D bit into the moist confection and moaned in appreciation. His eyes closed as he savored the first incredible bite. Oh, they were so good. No, they were beyond good. Leon laughed and shook his head when D reached out with both hands and grabbed as much as he could hold the first one only half eaten and caught in his teeth.

"Whoa, there partner. Come on put some of them down. I promise there not going anywhere." Leon took the extra cookies out of his hands and placed them back on top of the heap. A flash of regret and an almost childish want flicked through the link making Leon smile at him lopsidedly.

"All right, all right. Don't blame me if you get sick though. Go sit on the couch and I'll bring them to you. Okay?" D trudged off happily and curled up on the couch caught in the flex of the new hormones coursing through him. He sat Indian style with his legs crossed and held out his arms for the platter. All pretense of elegance or indifference was blown away by the overwhelming urge to eat, the kami part of his child desperately wanting to gorge on the sweet sugary goodness. Leon hesitated unsure whether it was wise to give him the whole tray or not but sighed and gave in when D stuck his bottom lip out in an adorable pout. D ate three quickly, sucking and licking his fingers between bites to get every last bit of the chocolate.

"Leon-san, you make me such good chocolate sweets." D told him with around a mouthful of the aforementioned sweets.

"Umm, thanks, I think. It's my grandmother's recipe. She used to make them with me all the time for my granddad." Leon eyes grew wide in alarm when D snatched up the sixth cookie in row. "D, baby, don't you think you ought to slow down some?" Leon stepped back from the intense irrational flash of anger in the kami's eyes. D wrapped a protective arm around the platter in his lap.

"Okay, never mind. I guess you know what you're doing. How about some tea then to go with them then?" Like night and day the switch went the other way and a radiant joy swept through the link. Leon took his cue and went to fetch the tea, take out the next batch and put the last batch on to bake. He opened up his end of the link just enough to let in the voracious hunger D felt and the mindless push of the hormones. He wondered to himself briefly how the average human male faired with his mate without the aid of this particular insight. The errant thought was interrupted by a loud knock on the door. Leon quickly went back through the apartment and looked out the peephole. He passed a rush of love and glee to D that was strong enough to make the kami pause mid bite and look up. His cousin Alan stood outside the door stubbing out one of his herbal cigs and looking cocky as the last time he saw him.

"D its Alan. You remember from the pictures, right?" D nodded and resumed eating. Leon threw open the door and ushered him in. Alan looked at D and D looked at Alan.

"Well, well, you must be the delectable Count D. Good cookies, huh?" He quipped and rocked on the balls of his feet his hands jammed into the pockets of his tight fitting jeans. D shook his head in response refusing to give up the cookies to answer.

"Alan?" Alan turned to look up at his much taller cousin ready to answer all the questions he saw reflected in those blue eyes.

"How do you know who he is? I'm sure we've never discussed it before." Alan could hear the concern buried in the words. Leon knew better then to believe Alan came across such information innocently. Alan knew better then to try and feed Leon some elaborate fabrication, so that left just one route. The direct and upfront approach in a straight forward fashion.

"Why wouldn't I know him Leon? I'm the lead operative in the Wu Long crime syndicate sting. D, D, D, that's all the smug bastard ever talks about." Absolute silence reigned through the room. Leon stared at Alan, Alan stared at Leon and D stared at both of them.

"Care to explain that to me cuz?" Alan grinned.

"Why I thought you'd never ask." The teakettle chose that moment to shrill from the kitchen. Leon held up a hand as if to say hold that thought and went to cut off the kettle. Alan looked over the kami trying to fit the insanely cute image of D wrapped in Leon's bathrobe with a plate of cookies on his lap and chocolate on the end of his nose looking more like a precocious four year old then the elegant and refined Chinese demi-god Wu Long wanted to possess. He rocked on his heels again thinking things through and adding things up in his mind. He wondered if one plus one might in this instance equal three. He bit back a snicker at the idea. Oh, how rich would that be if Leon had not only bedded Wu Long's intended but knocked him up as well.

After all, dragon man had been ranting and raving about his calculations indicating the demi god being most fertile within the immediate few months time span. Alan sauntered over to the end of the couch mirth dancing in him at the way the Chinese man eyed him and pulled the plate even closer.

"Don't you worry none about them cookies, I 'm just sure there my favorite ones. I can smell it. Only Leon can make them the way our grandmother used to. Those sure are good aren't they?" D eyed him suspiciously and watched his hands in case the human tried to snatch one. They were his cookies and he wasn't sharing. Alan sat down on the edge of the couch and gave him his brightest smile.

"Can I ask you a question?" D nodded slowly. If the question involved having a cookie the answer was no.

"Are you and Leon expecting a child?" Alan looked over his shoulder to make sure Leon wasn't on his way back. D, relieved it wasn't about cookies, nodded happily and went back to munching.

"Thought so." Alan sank back into the sofa and waited for his cousin.
