Flowing Through

The Julie Andrews song 'Getting to Know You' kept ringing through Leon's head. He usually listened to things that were a touch more aggressive. The song had been one of his mother's favorites. He knew all the words by heart. He'd learned them sitting out under the willow tree down by old man Feldman's pond. Some days his Mom sang the song under clear blue skies, some days they sat under the grayer skies of winter mixing the song with different Christmas Carols. She had thought of her children as grand adventures, each one a treasure to explore, a unique individual to get to know and to help to know her. The last days she sang it he had laid his head on her swollen stomach and tried to calm the fears ripping through him. He had been a boy on the cusp of being a man when his mother passed away giving life to his brother. The song seemed oddly appropriate for there in his living room sat a man whom he loved but did not know and who did not know him.

Leon hummed it under his breath while he pulled all the ingredients together to make one monster of an omelet. Both D and Q Chan had offered him a fruit tart and tea which he just shrugged at. He eyed the slightly battered Godiva Chocolate box on his coffee table and wondered which one of the two had snuck into his car to get but let it go.

"No thanks, I'm gonna make some real food. Something with less then a pound of sugar in it. You guys want anything?" Q Chan declined and made his goodbyes citing the petshop needed him. D watched his grandfather go with a veiled look before facing Leon.

"I am quite content with what I have Detective however thank you for offer." Leon smiled at him which was the last thing D expected.

"I understand Count. If you change your mind let me know." Leon answered every bit of sarcasm he could muster dripped into D's title. He meant what he said in more then one way and they both knew it. D had followed him into the kitchen settling himself on the same stool Leon had placed him on before. He didn't say anything just watched Leon go about making an omelet and listening to him hum under his breath. Leon annoyed by the silence hummed a little louder as he chopped, diced and shredded the ingredients. He caught D staring at him in his peripheral vision.

"What?" Startled D jerked slightly sloshing tea on the counter. Leon grabbed his hand stilling it so the hot liquid did not splash the other way onto his hand. He felt D tense immediately in his grasp.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you but your staring at me like you've never seen me before in your life. What's up with that?" Leon released his hand and returned to the cutting board finishing up the mushrooms. He whisked his eggs together with his favorite seasonings while waiting for answer.

"I am sorry. I did not mean to offend you." Leon shrugged nonchalantly and poured the eggs into the frying pan.

"Who's offended? I just wanted to know what you found so interesting." He went back to humming again thinking of happier times when he used to cook with his Mom and Grandmother. His hands moved easily from task to task, and in minutes he slid the omelet onto a large plate.

"I did not realize you are able to cook." Leon cut the omelet in half and pushed one side onto another plate. He laid the plate beside the Count and handed him a fork.

"What? Did you think I lived off fast food alone?" Leon shook his head at the bemused man.

"There's a lot about me you don't know. Maybe you should ask. Come on eat. Even if your not human I've seen you eat things other then sweets before. Now show me those impeccable manners of yours and humor me." Leon kept his tone light intentionally. D still recoiled when Leon said he wasn't human but took the plate anyway.

"There are many things you must be wondering about me, detective." Leon pulled the other stool up close to D's and grabbed his coffee.

"You could say that. You and your grandfather. And let's not forget why someone would want to shoot you. But hey, I don't want to get ahead of myself. So will just start with this. What are you D? And don't give me any b.s. either just spill it." Leon cut off a part of the omelet and popped it in his mouth. He waited patiently for D to sort out what he wanted to say.

"How much do you know about Asian mythology?" D spun his mug around lazily keeping his gaze diverted from Leon.

"Not much, enlighten me." Leon popped another mouthful of food.

"I, we, my family that is. We are what called kami's in our native land." Leon tapped his fork against his teeth in thought. He might have been familiar with the word, it seemed like he should be. It took a few clicks for his mind to recall the dusty information from its recesses. Images from his schools years flashed into place lifting the planes in his minds eyes from the history text books pages Planes that had been flown by the Japanese in a world war long since over. The pilots were called the kamikaze. The Divine Wind. Leon quit tapping his teeth and blew out a low whistle in sudden comprehension. He looked over at his friend, his confidant and at least twice his lover. Divine.

"You're a god?" D's lipped twitched in an almost smile.

"In a manner of speaking, but it is much more complicated then that." Leon leaned forward and quickly pressed a salty kiss on to D's lips, flicking the tip of his tongue against them in parting. D stared at him wide eyed.

"Trust me you have my full attention."
