Flowing Through

Leon rolled over in his bed moodily listening to the bits of the conversation he could hear through the bedroom door. Well, conversation was maybe a bit to mild a word to use; it was more like a hissed argument being carried out in hushed tones. Unfortunately those hushed tones were also in Chinese and therefore not doing Leon much good but habit made him listen anyways. He recognized D's voice easily enough and was fairly confident that the second voice belonged to Q Chan. If he had to wager a guess Leon would have put his money on the argument being about him as he had heard his name several times. It was the excessive use of his name that had finally pulled Leon from the slumber he had been in. He scratched at the stubble on his face in annoyance. He wanted to get up and stomp in there and throw a huge glorious fit. He wanted to tell them both to quit f**king arguing in his damn apartment or he'd ring both there slender necks. Leon grunted to himself in acknowledgement of just what a good idea that was. He was to sated from earlier though so instead he stretched out his body like a great cat and yawned enjoying the tension. His stomach gurgled at him in protest of not being fed. He scratched the fur on his belly absently and deliberately enticed himself with words like coffee, shower, and most importantly a three egg omelet stuffed with cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms and ham, lots and lots of ham. He frowned at the noises in the living room.

"Enough is enough." Leon murmured to himself. He climbed out of bed and pulled on the discarded jogging pants from the previous night. Leon wasn't much for manners. He was even less inclined when it involved the prevention of important things like him eating. He ambled out of the bedroom and was greeted by a wall of silence their words cut sharply off. Undisturbed Leon waved in their general direction as he proceeded to the kitchen stretching his arms above his head with his fingers linked and popping his backbones as he went. His brain was repeating the mantra coffee over and over shutting everything else out. He puttered back by once it had been set to drip and headed towards the bathroom. Leon pulled the ponytail holder from his hair and ran his fingers through it shaking it loose. He was a very smart detective but incredibly dense about himself so he missed the hooded looks both men gave him. Many people spend much of their time trying to improve their appearance or worrying about what others felt about their appearance; others people walk around being smug about their inherent (at least in their minds) beauty. Leon fell into that rare and special class of people who not only didn't give a flip about how they looked but were also completely unaware of their beauty and the effect it had on others. D sucked in a hard breath and bit his lower lip. His grandfather blinked stunned by the graceful lines and lean muscle that comprised Leon's body. Leon's hair hung loose just a bit past his shoulders and framed the well defined face in a halo of golden waves. Leon waved again in passing on his way to the shower still tugging through the tangled hair.

A moment of silence hung between the two kami's neither one looking at or addressing the other. Sofu D had a certain weakness for blondes. It was one of the reasons that his grandson's relationship with the human aggravated him so much. He'd never admit it but he was just a wee bit jealous that such a creature was not attracted to him. He knew that his aggressive attitude towards Leon in his Q Chan form was not so much in protection of his beloved grandson but the fact that were the roles reversed he would have bedded the man a good bit back. He didn't suffer from D's sense of morality. The younger kami wanted to be cherished and adored. Sofu would have been satisfied with lust and not to put to fine a point on it, some out and out worship. He cocked his head and eyed his grandson speculatively.

"He'll die and leave you alone." Sofu told his grandson in their native tongue. D winced at the words but remained silent.

"If you insist on mating with him despite my wishes then so be it but you do him a dishonor if you do not tell him the truth child. You have not completely mated it is not too late to turn back. Bed him if you must if that will get it out your system. I would be hard pressed to say I didn't understand why. His kind do not bond with one other as we do. He would not know you were holding back. But I will not allow you to do yourself or him the disfavor of fully bonding without him understanding the consequences. Understand me?" Sofu's voice rang with the authority of his age and stature. D bowed to him to show the respect that was his grandfather's right before answering.

"I understand Grandfather. Please forgive my insolence of earlier." D's voice quavered and tears welled up into his fine eyes. Sofu raised him from the bow by his chin and lifted his face to his own. He looked deep into D's eyes and the sorrow, confusion and fear that shone in them. His heart twisted for the young one. He brushed the soft black hair so like his own away from his brow tenderly.

"You are still but a child and you have much to learn. Our kind are the keepers of the earth and her creatures. The mysteries we have to know and understand take time beyond a human's to comprehend. I do not mean to be cruel you are beloved of me. I will do all I can to assure your happiness but your father has promised you to another. You know this, yes?" D nodded in his grandfather's hand the tears spilling over his lashes in misery. Sofu sighed and pulled him in close.

"Oh, little one, what can I do? The contract is not fully binding. It was done against my wishes and those of your great grandmother so there is hope. I have tried to reason with your father but he is as stubborn as you. I will say nothing to the young detective but do not disobey me on this. Human life is fragile and you will endanger him needlessly." Sofu kissed his lips softly before releasing him and stepping away.

"Now go and make us some tea and bring me one of those fruit tarts. The strawberry one if you please. I'm famished." Sofu watched his grandson go. He nodded approvingly at the way his back straightened and how he held his head high. Perhaps, all would not be lost. His grandson was much stronger then he appeared and if the things he read in Leon proved correct they had a fighting chance of making it against the onslaught he knew was coming. He read somewhere that you cannot choose a man's destiny for him, nor, he thought to himself could you choose a kami's.
