Flowing Through

Nana let the curtain drop and turned back to face her son his unease etching through her mind. He didn't approve of what she was doing one bit but he didn't approve of what his son was doing either. She let the welter of conflicting thoughts and emotions he was emanating wash over her. She arched one pencil fine eyebrow at him mildly amused at his inner turmoil.

"Such a heavy load you bring yourself to bear. I wonder is it really worth it? Just now you were upset because your son had been injured, whom you know full well will be fine, and not five minutes ago you were enraged with him for his recent conduct. It must be quite taxing, to say the least, to carry so much. Ne?" Q Chan glowered at the petite woman in warning only to be rewarded with a calm smile from behind lowered lashes.

"You are as infuriating as that damn human." He hissed pointing at Leon in disgust. It would do him no good to rise to the bait. A thousand years or so of always coming out on the losing end of every argument had taught him at least that much. It was no wonder his grandson had turned out the way he had her heavy influence evident in all manner of things. Q Chan briefly thought of returning to his bat form and leaving. Life became so much simpler out of his human shell. He thought wistfully of how wonderful one single ripe strawberry could be in that form.

"You do not have that luxury. You know that and so do I. If Wu Long succeeds it won't be just one or two life times, he cannot just suffer through, as is our want to do when situations are not to our liking. Time is not in our favor for the dragon prince will live as long as him. Humans have a saying that life is too short to be miserable, in our instance, my dear son, life is to long. Come, we have much to do." Q Chan lowered his head in agreement and finished settling the sleeping human into bed with his grandson. He paused midway through smoothing the covers over them disconcerted by what he saw. The moment the young kami had felt Leon's warmth he had turned in his sleep and tucked himself under his chin. His eyes widen in surprise as tendrils of D's hair lengthen and took on a life of its own winding over Leon's arms and back. Q Chan stood from his bent posture slowly.

"It's not possible." He whispered to himself. His grandson was exhibiting the first signs of true bonding and was completely unaware of it. Q Chan had never fully bonded in his long life. A complete bonding would render a kami of their class subservient to the one they bonded to (precisely what Wu Long hoped to achieve). Oh he had bonded human lovers to be sure but that was on an entirely different level and had the effect of making the human subservient to him, not the other way around. He had been warning D of just that earlier because he did not wish to see he grandson make the same mistakes he had made watching lovers die unable to release them to live a normal life. He shook his head in mute denial.

"Why do you shake your head no?" Nana asked from across the room busy pulling out Jill's bug and deactivating it. She did not bother to look at him as she turned the small silver disc in her hands. Her tone was casual, unconcerned and not at all disturbed.

"Because he cannot bond with a human this way it is not done!" Nana glanced over at the couple in the center of the bed. D's hair was swirling around the blonde man's body in a sensual caress stretching from his head to his toes. A scent not unlike moonflowers filled the room and a contented hum could be heard from the young kami.

"Really? It would seem to me that apparently it is possible and it can be done or do you doubt my eyesight as well as yours?" She squished the little piece of metal flat with her fingers satisfied with the sharp pop it gave as the internal components gave way.

"You know it is such a pity that all of my offspring inherited just the kami side of their heritage. I'm afraid not one of you has it in you to fully appreciate the cleverness and spirit of this woman. It's actually quite a shame." Nana dropped the remnants of the device in her pocket. She gave her great grandchild a gentle kiss on his brow pushing him deeper into slumber and stilling his body's desire to bond. She watched as the long hair retracted back to normal. Nana walked around the footboard and gifted Leon with the same kiss reinforcing her earlier imprint to sleep.

Q Chan stood twisting his long fingers in agitation. Something buried deep inside of him resonated with the power she possessed but was blocked from it by the overlaying genetic imprint of being a kami. His son and grandson had been shielded as much as possible from the truth he as second generation could not escape. Nana fixed him in a flat, hard glare.

"Now be so kind as to call for a taxi. I wish to visit my other grandchild and give this woman a little aid in keeping him out of this situation. It would do the little arrogant upstart good to learn first hand what being in someone else's power is like. Perhaps it will teach him to not disvalue the life of his own child in such a disgraceful manner or at the very least he may come to a better understanding of these creatures he so hates." Nana walked into the living room and gathered up the remains of their earlier tea as she spoke washing out the mugs and setting them to dry. Q Chan hastened to do her bidding and a few moments later they left the apartment building leaving wards in their wake to protect the sleeping couple through the night. They sat in silence watching the city skyline flow by in the darkness on their way to Jill's apartment both lost in their own thoughts.
